In-Home Euthanasia in Chicago
When it’s time to say goodbye to your beloved pet, everyone’s focus should be on making that process as smooth as possible. After all, that pet is a member of the family, your best buddy, your loyal friend. If you know it’s that time (or you’re not sure if it’s that time), and you’re looking for a compassionate veterinary professional in the near downtown Chicago area, consider the in-home euthanasia services we provide at Village West Veterinary. Our services help ensure that logistics and stress on your pet at that final time don’t add to an already heartbreaking process. And this alternative to our in-hospital option allows you to say goodbye to your pet on your terms.
What Is In-Home Euthanasia?
In-home euthanasia has become more popular as owners move towards providing the most comfortable goodbye for their pets. If your little friend isn’t good on car rides, or can’t move around well, or gets stressed at the vet clinic and really just wants to stay in its favorite bed or ray of sunlight, in-home euthanasia is an option that allows you to preserve some extra comfort in their last moments.
As one of the few veterinarians in the Ukrainian Village, Wicker Park, Bucktown, Logan Square, Lincoln Park, Old Town, and the general downtown Chicago area that provides this service, we understand that you may be unfamiliar and a little nervous about in-home euthanasia, or euthanasia in general. The process is very similar to visiting our facility at Village West Veterinary, but instead, we make every attempt to give you more quality time with your pet friend in the peace of your own home and at the most ideal time possible.
What to Expect with In-Home Euthanasia
Regardless of whether this is your first experience saying goodbye to a furry friend or a repeat with another pet, we will still walk you through each step. Our hospital will coordinate with you for the best day and time, and we’ll review the options and costs. We do usually take payment prior to the visit to facilitate the process. We confirm the visit again beforehand and discuss any last minute worries. Once we arrive and know it’s surely time, we’ll give your pet a mild sedative to get him or her more relaxed. There is no rush. We take our time. Then when it’s time to say a final goodbye, we deliver a second medication, a very strong sedative, which is enough to quietly stop the heartbeat and breathing. Your pet will gently pass away without any pain.
In-home euthanasia allows you to take whatever steps you need to make the last moments as comfortable as possible. It may be a very personal, private goodbye, or you can invite your pet’s circle of loved ones to be with you in the final moments. Comfort is everything, and you know better than anyone how to give the best send off.
